Not only she is defining music of new generation, also her music is changing the trend of music today. But it won’t be easy because she will have a lot of resistance from established groups including other artists, record companies, etc. Her music is a threat for them.
Her music is trying to bring back music trend in 70’s and 80’s, when there were so many talented artists came up with varieties of music. Talent is most important for an artist success and their looks doesn’t. That’s why most of the music legends are from 70’s and 80’s. (eg MJ, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Elton John, U2, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who and many many other great artists)
Since 90’s, when Back Street Boys was promoted by a rich guy, teen pop has been dominating the world music and artists who has had pretty faces, know how to sing a little bit and have connections in music industry get record contracts or are promoted by rich organization like Disney. Artists who have real talent, but don’t have good looks hardly get record contracts and have to sings at local pubs. (Lady Gaga was also denied to get contract by record companies because she is not pretty like a model for them. She had her own band and used to sing at local clubs until Akon found her)

No one artist will define this generation because we’re exposed to such a large variety of music these days with the internet.
Well I actually like her but I feel she is overrated sometimes.
